Mad About Margaret’s Cancellation Announcement

As you are aware, we are in the middle of a pandemic.  As a result, we have had to cancel our signature fund raising event Mad About Margaret’s.

Each of us must do our part in fighting the spread of the corona virus and so in keeping with the state of emergency in the province and required social distancing, to keep us all safe, we have had to forego this year’s MAM Advocacy Award celebration.

While our fundraising event has been cancelled, Margaret’s continues to work on behalf of many who are homeless. As such we are providing you with the option of either converting your ticket purchase to a donation, or you may opt for a refund. Continue on our site to see how we are addressing the needs of our clients in this particularly trying time.

What does this mean for you, our ticket buyers?

Our team is working diligently to mitigate the effects of this cancellation and we will be reaching out to each and everyone of you to discuss your options.

We ask that you take a moment to reflect on the impact COVID-19 may have on the vulnerable populations we serve.

Please help us rise above this moment and consider converting your ticket purchase into a donation to Margaret’s.

While you and I are being asked to self-isolate at home, what exactly does this mean for those who are homeless or precariously housed?

We recently received the devastating news that our 24/7 respite funding might be cut and this news combined with the evolving pandemic may present dire consequences for our clients.

For many of these individuals, Margaret’s drop-in and respite is their home. Our drop-ins provide stability, a sense of community and daily access to essentials like nutritious meals, shelter, and health care.

During this crisis, the health and safety of individuals like Barbara come to mind.

Barbara is an 82 year old client who has considered Margaret’s drop-in and respite programs her home for the last 7 years. Living with schizophrenia and acute anxiety, she depends on us for her daily meals and monthly psychiatric appointments.

Without these supports, vulnerable individuals like Barbara will end up in emergency rooms and hospitals across the city, resources that are already feeling the strain of this pandemic.

We ask that you think of Barbara, and allow us to direct your generous support to the area of greatest need, so we can respond to those in need.

We greatly appreciate your concern, compassion and support at this time. For immediate information about your ticket, please contact donate@margarets.ca.

In the meantime, take care of yourself and each other.

Stay well,

The Margaret’s Team

COVID – 19 Relief

How You Can Help

Our clients experiencing homelesslessness, who often have pre-existing health conditions and are nutritionally vulnerable, are at a higher risk during this outbreak. These individuals don’t have the option “to stay at home” and the increasing number of individuals residing in shelters or congregate housing situations makes social distancing a challenge.

Please help us rise above these challenging times. In lieu of supporting us on-site, you can help Margaret’s by:

  • Making a donation —  Allow us to direct your generous support to the area of greatest need, so we can respond to those in need and serve Toronto’s most vulnerable. Your generosity can help us with unexpected costs of supplies as we package meals to-go and clean our shelter and residential spaces.
  • Send needed supplies — To maintain the health and safety of our staff and clients we are currently in need of hand sanitizer and masks.
