Update and Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Committed to the safety and well-being of all, Margaret’s Housing and Community Support Services continues to offer essential housing and drop-in and respite programs, as well as other services, for Toronto’s most vulnerable amidst the coronavirus outbreak.

We are closely monitoring COVID-19, as well as proactively seeking and following the latest guidance from the City of Toronto, health authorities and other community partners.

The following steps are currently in place to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and maintain the health and safety of our staff and clients:

R

Suspending “non-essential” services, including recreational and senior programming at all drop-in locations…

R

Altering meal service to take-out only.

R

Limiting the number of clients in a room at our drop-ins sites to promote social distancing and limit overcrowding.

R

Promoting good hygiene practices to staff and clients including regular handwashing, hand-sanitizing, social distancing and self-isolation protocols.

R

Increasing the frequency of daily cleaning and safety procedures and supplies at our drop-in and respite facilities.

R

Increasing the frequency of our disinfection and sanitization to our drop-in and respite sites.

R

Conducting ongoing verbal and visual health screenings of participants, staff and volunteers.

R

Office staff, and those who aren’t frontline workers, have been instructed to work from home until further notice.

Margaret’s will continue to keep our drop-in and respite doors open for those in need and communicate updates regarding program changes and closures.

COVID – 19 Relief

How You Can Help

Our clients experiencing homelesslessness, who often have pre-existing health conditions and are nutritionally vulnerable, are at a higher risk during this outbreak. These individuals don’t have the option “to stay at home” and the increasing number of individuals residing in shelters or congregate housing situations makes social distancing a challenge.

Please help us rise above these challenging times. In lieu of supporting us on-site, you can help Margaret’s by:

  • Making a donation —  Allow us to direct your generous support to the area of greatest need, so we can respond to those in need and serve Toronto’s most vulnerable. Your generosity can help us with unexpected costs of supplies as we package meals to-go and clean our shelter and residential spaces.
  • Send needed supplies — To maintain the health and safety of our staff and clients we are currently in need of hand sanitizer and masks.
