2019 MAM Highlights
Mad About Margaret’s 2019 Event had over 200 guests in attendance, and raised significant funds that directly help our supportive housing services.
Thank you to all our sponsors and friends, you have made this evening a great success.
The Margaret Trudeau Mental Health Advocacy Award was presented to Juno Award winning Inuk musician Susan Aglukark who surprised the crowd with a beautiful song from her unreleased album. Susan was presented her award by friend and fellow musician Serena Ryder (who made her second MAM appearance).
Tina Swift, one of Margaret’s clients and former board members gave a moving speech about her personal struggles with abuse, addiction, and mental health and her path to recovery.
Handcrafted goods from Margaret’s clients were for sale.
Signature gin cocktails were mixed with Levenswater gin.
The evening was re-energized with a closing bit from Auctioneer, Frances Fripp, who helped raise almost $10,000 before the night’s end.
Two lucky raffle winners left with a cruise vacation for 2 and a flight voucher for 2 that was provided by CELEBRITY CRUISES and Westjet.
Margaret Trudeau
Advocacy Award
We are honoured to have last year’s recipient, 6-time Juno Award winner, Serena Ryder present this year’s Margaret Trudeau Mental Health Advocacy Award to Nunavut’s first ever Juno Award winning Inuk musician, Susan Aglukark! Susan’s long journey in the business has also led her on a path of personal discovery, cultural reconnections, and personal healing. Over the past 25 years, Susan has released 7 albums, garnered 3 Juno awards, received The Order of Canada, and most recently was awarded the Governor General’s Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award. Susan also founded the Arctic Rose Foundation, which provides arts based therapy and culturally specific after school programming to help children and youth in the north dealing with poverty, addiction, trauma and abuse.
